I'm a new-comer to the world of blogs (having started the above about a month ago); but I think they are a great way to share your thoughts, reflections and feelings. If we are supposed to be the yeast, then we should also be active in this sphere, encouraging each other in a world that is often apathetic at best and hostile. Of course nothing beats the face-to-face encouragement from one's own community, when it's there!

Ah, you did - my fault for skim-reading! I'm with you that they need to be in addition to prayer letters too...

Also, thanks Ben - I did mention missionary blogs - and i think they come under the Fanzine heading. But now i'm just quibbling.

Happy days

Hi Mark
Always good to read your posts. How about missionary blogs? I know that we folks at TSCF (Nigel Pollock, Andy Shudall, myself, to name a few...) have them to report to folks a long way away all that's going on.
I have to say I'm not a huge fan of blogs - although obviously, I have one myself. They are interesting, but also have enormous potential for time-wasting (particularly reading links & links of links etc!). I think at times, they can suffer from not being edited/selected in quite the same way books are, but that has its advantages too! Having said that, I do read some fairly regularly, so they are not all bad!
Look forward to meeting you some day!
Blessings,
Ben

Mark

Thanks for this - you've made me think seriously about taking up blogging. Good to meet for dead language practice this morning.

Thanks guys - good to have your thoughts.
Although in answer to Hugh, i'd thought of the journal idea - but felt that the fact that is public makes it more of a Fanzine thing. I'm not sure it really counts to say that it was for your own memory initially! If that was the case, why not just keep it on your computer?!

I used to have a diary style thing, till I ditched it for more a treasure map / network resource sharing / general rant. It's more fun to have focus perhaps?

I think you missed one...
Journal / Diary
My blog comes under lots of categories now but originally it started when I went to Uni... I found myself doing lots of interesting and mundane things and wanted to record them, more for my own memory than others to read, but that was my initial urge to blog
