So Tired – some post-vote, not particularly comic, doggerel

Picasso's 1972 Self-portrait

I’m not going to get into all the ins and outs of synodical votes this week. It’s all very sad, and for a whole range of reasons, and I’m frankly fearful of the future. Obviously, things can’t remain as they were.

But I’m currently more distressed by the way people are talking about each other. The ad hominem (or should that also be ad feminam) arguments, the constant hermeneutic of suspicion (about which I’ve blogged ad infinitum on Q) that presumes to discern misogyny or cowardice or worldliness, the bitterness and the bile. So this little bit of doggerel spewed out while I was sitting on the train. I don’t claim it as great art. Nor that it will necessarily do anything to keep the peace. If it’s offensive, well that’s the nature of the call to repentance I guess. I just felt the need to get it out.

So Tired

I’m just so tired of the self-righteousness of liberals
Who think they’re all so inclusive and just and, well, liberal

I’m just so tired of the self-righteousness of anglos
Who think they’re all so awe-filled and holy and, well, catholic

I’m just so tired of the self-righteousness of nominals
Who think they’re all so balanced and respectable and, well, anglican

I’m just so tired of the self-righteousness of evos
Who think we’re all so valiant and true and, well, faithful

I’m just so tired of the self-righteousness of atheists
Who think they’re all so rational and moral and, well, godless

I’m just so tired of the self-righteousness of myself
Who thinks I’m all so sorted… and well, better than the self-righteous

To be honest, I’m just so tired.

Thank GOD, then, for the ONLY hope;
the latest, oldest Christmas special offer:
Soul rest for the weary, easy yokes for the burdened

Oh yes, amen. This is it, exactly – the being so tired, and needing to remember to come to Jesus. Thank you.
